Frequently Asked Questions
What is Mission Enterprises Limited?
Mission Enterprises Limited is not-for-profit Christian ministry support facilitator helping farm and other businesses distribute funds to Christian organisations in Australia and around the world. These organisations range from your local church, to missionaries to multi-faceted international organisations.
I’m not a farmer. How can I become a MEL ministry partner?
We will work with you to develop mission partnerships in a range of businesses, and other income generating contexts, with MEL ministry partners.
How can MEL assist me to support mission organisations?
Mission Enterprises Limited can assist you in distributing income to those in need. If you already know what ministry organisations you want to support, Mission Enterprises can facilitate that giving. If you would like some ideas as to whom you might support, we can share our knowledge with you to assist your decision making.
How does this work?
MEL ministry partners place income generating assets with MEL for as long as they desire. Income generated is tax exempt and distributed to mission partners at the suggestion of members to support mission and Christian work around the world and at home.
Can you give me an example?
Sure.
Let’s say a farmer sells 10 lambs to MEL at $10 each (ie $110 including GST).
The lambs remain with the farmer and, when ready for market, are sold on behalf of MEL at $150 each giving an income of $1500 inclusive of GST. After purchase and incurred costs are deducted from the gross profit, the net amount of around $1200 is available for distribution.
MEL does not charge a fee for this service.
Which missions does MEL support?
MEL undertakes due diligence on all proposed mission partners before funds can be distributed. Mission partner organisations must be actively involved in Christian mission. This includes organisations large and small in Australia and overseas and also your local church. Support approval rests with the MEL directors.
Can MEL make donations to my local church?
Yes.
Will the mission organisation know that I have contributed to the donation?
When making distributions, MEL likes the recipient to know which MEL ministry partner(s) recommend them to the Board. However, if you prefer not to be mentioned to the ministry in question, that can be accommodated.
How does MEL cover it’s operating costs?
MEL does not charge ministry or mission partners any fees but meets costs through investment income and donations from ministry partners. All MEL Directors are volunteers.
What steps should I take to become a MEL ministry partner and increase my giving?
The first step is to talk to us about how you would like to partner with us and decide what income generating asset(s) you will use to facilitate your giving through MEL.
Once this is set up, decide where you would like to distribute the funds generated and suggest those organisations to MEL as possible ministry partners.
After assessing the organisations to ensure their legitimacy, MEL will distribute the funds on your behalf.
